each time a cylinder is hooked up, or if a part of the gas system is replaced.
Note:
GAS HOSE MUST BE INSPECTED
PRIOR TO EACH USE.
IMPORTANT:
1.
The regulator must be attached so that no part of the hose
touches the underside of the barbecue, otherwise a fire may occur.
2.
Do not store a spare LP Gas cylinder under or near this
appliance
3.
Never fill the cylinder beyond 80 percent full
If the above is not followed exactly, a fire causing
death or serious injury may occur
The LP-gas
cylinder valve/connection device should safely and properly match up with the
connection device attached to the inlet of the pressure regulator. See diagram for more details.

Natural gas hook-up
This barbecue is
supplied with a 3.048m (10ft) supply hose, complete with quick disconnect that
is designed for natural gas. This
barbecue is designed to operate at an inlet pressure of 7 inch water
column. Piping and valves upstream of
the quick disconnect are not provided.
The quick
disconnect must not be installed upward.
A readily accessible manual shut-off valve must be installed upstream of
the quick disconnect. The flared end of
the hose must be connected to the unit as illustrated. A licensed gas installer must do these
connections.
Shut-off the main
gas supply valve and leave it off until the new hook-up has been
completed. Do not forget to re-light the
pilot on other gas appliances when turning the gas back on.
Never use an old
connector. Carefully align the pipe when
using the hard piping method. You can
use a pipe joint compound or wrap pipe thread tape around all male or
external pipe threads.
Leak test all the
joints prior to using the barbecue.
Warning: This outdoor cooking appliance and its
Individual shut off valve must be disconnected from the gas supply system
during any pressure testing of that system to test pressures in excess of 0.5
psi (3.5kPa) and the outdoor cooking appliance must be isolated from the gas
supply system by closing its individual manual shut off valve during any
pressure testing of the gas supply piping system to test pressures equal to or
less than ½ psi (3.5kPa)
Warning: DO NOT use a
flame to test for leaks.
This must be done before the initial use of the
barbecue, annually, and whenever any gas components are replaced or
serviced. Also, this must be done in a
well-ventilated area away from combustible materials. There is to be absolutely
NO SMOKING
while performing this test.

1.
Remove
or extinguish all sources of ignition (e.g. open flame or cigarettes).
2.
Turn
off all the burner controls. Then, turn
gas supply valve on slowly.
3.
Brush
a solution of liquid soap and water onto all joints and connections of the
regulator, hose, manifolds, and valves.
4.
Bubbles
will indicate a gas leak. (Either
tighten the loose joint or replace the part with the one recommended by the
dealer).
5. If the leak persists, shut off the gas supply.
6. Disconnect the barbecue and have it
inspected by your gas supplier or dealer.
Do not use the barbecue until the leak has been corrected.
LIGHTING INSTRUCTIONS AND CONTROL
OPERATION
Note: This barbecue is equipped with an automatic electronic ignition switch.
1.
The gas cylinder must be properly connected to the regulator. The gas cylinder must not be empty. NEVER connect the barbecue to an unregulated
gas supply.
2. There should be no gas leaks in the gas
supply system. Do leak test first.
3. The burner or venturi tubes must be
properly located over the gas valve orifices.
4. Open the lid of the barbecue before
lighting.
5.
Make sure all burner control knobs are in the off position. Then, slowly turn on the gas supply valve.
There are three
knobs that control the three burners in the barbecue grill. The knob on the left controls the centre/back
burner. Continuing right, the next knob
controls the left burner of the main grill.
The next knob controls the right burner of the main grill. You may use all the three burners at the same
time, or choose the burner you only need to use. (The big barbecue has five burners).
Push the control
knob in and turn it counter-clockwise to LIT.
You will hear a clicking sound indicating proper operation of the spark
module. After burner lights, rotate the
knob out of the LIT position to adjust the flame size.
As indicated,
there are two main grill burners and one back burner. When properly installed, all the burners
should light within six seconds when you push their control knobs in and turned
counter-clockwise. After burner lights,
the flames should be steady and should not lift off burner ports.
To light the rear burner rotisserie
Caution: Do not operate the main burner and the rear burner at
the same time as this may cause a grease fire or damage to the barbecue.
Re-install the
rotisserie motor. (You can take out the rotisserie motor if not in use). The rotisserie motor is run by electricity;
plug it in while using.
Push the control
knob situated in the extreme left front of the barbecue in and turn it to
LIT. You will hear a clicking
sound. After burner lights, rotate the
knob out of the LIT position to adjust the flame size accordingly.
MAINTENANCE
AND CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
This barbecue
must be placed outdoors so that there is no obstruction in the flow of
combustion and air ventilation. Make
sure carpeting or woodwork does not obstruct the openings around the base of
the barbecue that supply fresh air for combustion and ventilation. Similarly, the cylinder enclosure must be
free and clear from debris.
The location of
this outdoor barbecue must always be clear and free from combustible materials,
gasoline, and other flammable vapours and liquids. Also, the barbecue must maintain proper
clearances from combustible structures.
Visually inspect
the burner flames. The flames have dark
blue tips, sometimes yellow, when the air shutter is correctly set in using LP
gas. However, call for service if the
flames are yellow.
When using
natural gas, the flames are normally soft blue.
If the burner is
not getting enough air, the flames will have a soft yellow shape and colour. However, if the burner is getting too much
air, the flames will act erratically on the burner.
Quality of flames:

Note: The air shutter is factory set and does
not need adjustment under normal circumstances.
However, if there is really a need for an adjustment, a qualified gas
installer must do the combustion air adjustment.
To adjust the air shutter, remove the cover (e.g.
cooking grids and burner covers). Leave
the lid open. Loosen the air shutter
lock screw and rotate the shutter to adjust (open or close) the flow of air as
required. Flames should not lift off
burner ports. Reduce the air shutter
opening until flames are stabilized.
Then, light the burners and set to high. When the air shutters are correctly set,
turn the burners off and tighten the lock screw.

Check the hose
for any abrasion, melting, cuts, and cracks.
Do not use the barbecue if any of these signs exist. Replace the hose assembly before using the
barbecue.
CLEANING THE BARBECUE
Important: TURN OFF the
gas at the source (i.e. propane cylinder or natural gas supply valve) and disconnect the barbecue before cleaning
or servicing. Cleaning and
maintenance should only be made when the grill and burner are cool to avoid the
possibility of burns. Use recommended
cleaning agents, if necessary. Clean the
barbecue in an area where cleaning solutions will not harm decks, lawns or
patios. It is not necessary to clean
the barbecue after each use, but should be done regularly.
Important: DO NOT disassemble or clean any
burner while another burner is on. Turn
all controls off. Clean the burner parts
only if they are cool to avoid skin burns.
Wipe and clean
the surface burners regularly, especially after bad spillages. You may take out
the burner for easier cleaning.
Burned-on food and spillages clog the burner openings. Soak the surface burner in a hot water with
soap or detergent. Do not use steel wool
because it may scratch the surface burners and clog the openings. Clean any blocked ports using sewing needle,
wire twist-tie or an opened paper clip. However, do not enlarge the burner
ports.
Check and clean
burner/venturi tubes for insects and insect nests. A clogged tube can lead to a fire beneath the
grill. To clean the inside of the
burner/venturi tubes use a flexible venturi tube cleaning brush. Shake any loose debris out of the
burner. Rinse well, shake out excess
water, and dry it thoroughly. Place the
burner back in correct position and make sure it is properly placed and
level.
Burner cover
Lift up and slide
out the burner cover when cool. Wash it
in hot water with mild soap. You may use
a plastic scouring pad to remove burned-on food or spillages, if
necessary. Rinse well and let it dry
completely. Do not put the cover back
while it is still wet. When dry, replace it in correct position.
Burner grate
Lift out the
burner grate when cool. Wash it in hot,
soapy water with soap. Use any type of scouring
pad to remove burned-on food and spillages, if necessary. Rinse well and let it dry completely. Make sure to replace it correctly and in a secured
position over the burner. You may put
coating of cooking oil on the bottom of the grate to prevent it from
rusting. The grate will gradually loose
its shine due to continuous exposure to high temperatures.
Cooking grids and drip pan
Cooking grids and
drip pan should be cleaned regularly to avoid grease build up. Accumulated grease could cause a fire hazard.
Lift out the cooking grids. Take out the drip pan inside the
cabinet. Soak the cooking grids and drip pan in hot
water with soap to help remove burned-on foods.
Use soap-filled scouring pad or steel wool for stubborn stains, if
necessary. Wash, rinse, and let them
dry. When re-installing the cooking
grids and drip pan, make sure that they are in correct position.
Note: The stainless grids may discolour permanently from
normal usage because of the high cooking temperature.
To clean the
inside of the barbecue, remove the cooking grids. Use a soft wire brush to clean loose debris
from sides and insides of the lid. Clean
the area under the lid regularly because built-up soot/food or grease may catch
on fire. Use a cloth with hot, soapy
water. Use plastic scouring pad or a
scraper, if necessary. Brush all debris
into the removable drip pan. Make sure
that the cooking grids and drip pan are properly replaced.
Do not use a steel wool pad.
Use a warm cloth with stainless steel cleaner to wipe the stainless
steel surfaces of the barbecue. Always scrub lightly in the direction of the
grain. You may use a stainless steel
polish if you want to preserve the shine of the barbecue.
Clean the control
knobs with water and mild soap after each use. (You can also use solution of
warm water and vinegar). Avoid using
abrasive cleansers, scouring pad, or oven cleaners because these would damage
the finish. Rinse and polish dry with a
soft and clean cloth.
Control knobs may
be removed for easier cleaning. Pull the
control knobs gently directly off the stem.
Wash them in soapy water or vinegar and hot water solution. Dry with a soft and clean cloth. Replace them in their proper places.
It is normal that a slight odour will come out when
the barbecue is lit for the first time because of the burn-in of internal
lubricants used in the manufacturing process.
(This is only for the first time and it will not happen again). Turn on the barbecue main grill and the back
burner to high for thirty (30) minutes.
Use the control
knob to select the flame size. Watch the
flame as you reduce heat.
Main grill
Preheating is
recommended when searing foods. Turn on
the main grill in high position with the lid closed for ten (Appox.)
minutes. You may use the three burners
in the main grill depending on your need.
Food (e.g. fish
and vegetables) that is cooked for a short period of time maybe grilled with
the lid open. However, food is cooked
faster and more evenly when the lid is closed.
When cooking very
lean meats (e.g. lean pork or chicken breast), you may put some oil in the
grids before pre-heating to reduce food sticking.
Trim some fat or
reduce flame size to prevent flare-ups when cooking meat with a high fat
content. In the event of a flare-up,
move food away from flames and reduce heat.
Leave the lid open.
The main grill is also designed for rotisserie. Please refer to the rotisserie kit assembly
instructions. Remove the cooking grids
if they interfere with the rotisserie.
When you want to seal in juices, turn the rear burner
on high until the meat becomes brown. Then,
reduce the heat to cook the food thoroughly.
You may keep the lid closed for best results.
Caution: Do not operate the main burner and the
rear burner at the same time as this may cause a grease fire or damage to the
barbecue.
The rear burner
is design to be used in conjunction with the rotisserie kit. The rear burner rotisserie method is the best
for cooking roasts or fowl.
Use the control
knob to select the appropriate flame size.
Re-install the rotisserie motor; plug it in to use. For most applications of rotisserie cooking,
a drip pan is used to collect the drippings.
Put a drip pan underneath the meat, with one inch of water. For
cooking without a drip pan, close attention is needed because there is a possibility
of grease fire.
For fowl, tie the
wings and legs tightly to avoid contact with the drip pan. Place the meat on the center of the spit to
avoid the meat being unbalanced. To seal
in juices, turn the rear burner to high until the surface of the meat is
brown. Then, reduce the heat to
thoroughly cook the meat.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ): Troubleshooting tips
Q1.Why is the flame low even
when the valve was turned to high?
Ψ
Improper
lighting procedure may cause the flame to be low. Make sure that all burner control knobs are
off when the gas supply valve is turned on.
Then, turn the gas supply gradually to allow pressure to equalize. For natural gas, maybe the supply line is
undersized. Pipe size must be according
to the installation code.
Ψ
Burner
holes may be clogged. Clean them with a
sewing needle, a wire twist-tie, or an open paper clip. Make sure you do not enlarge the holes.
Q2.Why it is the burner
flame large and yellow?
Ψ
If
you are using LP gas, yellow tips on outer cones of the flames are normal. But if the flames are completely yellow, call
for service.
Ψ
The
burner may be partially blocked. Clean
the burner/venturi.
Ψ
The
air adjustment is not correctly set. See
air adjustment instructions. A qualified
gas installer must do the combustion air adjustment.
Q3.Why does the burner
flames lift away from the burner?
Ψ
Improper
air adjustment. The flames lift
erratically from the burner if the burner is getting too much air. See air adjustment instructions. A qualified gas installer must do the combustion
air adjustment.
Q4.Why does the burner not
light?
Ψ
The
propane gas cylinder is empty. Refill LP
gas cylinder.
Ψ
The
control knob or the gas supply valve is off.
Please check.
Ψ
Maybe
the igniter is not sparking. Replaced
the battery for the igniter.
Ψ
The
hose is maybe twisted. Straighten the
hose.
Ψ
The
burner/venturi is maybe blocked. Clean
the burner/venturi.
Note: If the burner
still does not light, call for service.
DO NOT leave the control knob open because the gas will leak.
Q5.Why is there a
discoloration on the stainless steel surface?
Ψ
It is
normal that the stainless steel may discolour when heated. This will not affect the barbecues cooking
performance.
Q6.Why is the regulator making
noise?
Ψ
Sometimes
the regulator does make noise because of internal vibrations. This is normal during hot days and it is not
a defect. This does not affect the
cooking performance of the barbecue. It
also helps to turn gas cylinder valve on slowly to avoid the humming
noise.
